Coronado, CA – The authorities have released the name of a bicyclist who died after colliding with an SUV on Highway 75 in Coronado on Tuesday afternoon.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the victim as James Joseph Berta, a 78-year-old resident of Coronado.
The deadly collision happened on Highway 75, also known as Silver Strand Boulevard, near Tulagi Road at about 1:37 p.m. on March 17, 2026.
The Coronado Police Department said Berta was riding his bicycle southbound on Highway 75 when he collided with an SUV.
Berta suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at about 1:49 p.m.
According to Coronado Police, the driver stopped and rendered aid to the bicyclist.
No additional information regarding the incident was provided.
Police said neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the collision.
The crash remains under investigation.
