Police said Harris was riding an e-bike northbound on Olney Street when he entered the intersection against a red traffic signal.
San Diego, CA – Authorities have identified the teenager who died after his electric bicycle collided with a sedan at an intersection in San Diego Saturday night.
The victim was identified as Owen Timothy Harris, 14, of San Diego, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The collision occurred around 9:20 p.m. Sept. 12 at Balboa Avenue and Olney Street. Police said Harris was riding an e-bike northbound on Olney Street when he entered the intersection against a red traffic signal.
A 38-year-old man was driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 westbound on Balboa Avenue in the right lane when the vehicle struck the bicyclist.
Harris was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:07 p.m. The Medical Examiner determined that he died from blunt force trauma. His manner of death was classified as an accident, with no contributing conditions listed.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
The fatal e-bike crash remains under investigation by the San Diego Police Department.
