The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the deceased bicyclist as Olimpio Rodriguez Cervantes, a 78-year-old man from San Marcos.

San Marcos, CA – An elderly bicyclist who was killed after colliding with a vehicle on San Marcos Boulevard in San Marcos on Tuesday afternoon has been identified, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner identified the deceased bicyclist as Olimpio Rodriguez Cervantes, a 78-year-old man from San Marcos.
The fatal crash occurred in the 1900 block of West San Marcos Boulevard at approximately 12:11 p.m. on April 21, 2026.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department Olimpio Cervantes was riding a standard bicycle in the westbound lanes when he collided with a white Lexus SUV. The circumstances leading up to the collision were not immediately determined.
Cervantes sustained severe injuries and was found in the roadway. Deputies and paramedics provided life-saving measures at the scene, but he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:26 p.m. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were reported.
The medical examiner confirmed that Cervantes died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, trunk, and extremities.
Emergency responders from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station arrived at the scene and conducted initial life-saving efforts while securing the area.
The collision caused disruptions along West San Marcos Boulevard as authorities responded and began their investigation.
The San Marcos Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit continues to investigate the incident, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact authorities.
