In 2019, Hayward had 52 pedestrians killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions. That count dipped slightly to 51 in 2021, then rose to 41 in 2022, and further to 57 in 2023, placing the city in the upper tier for pedestrian victims among comparable California cities. Age subgroup data indicate that both children under 15 and older adults (65+) have been consistently represented in pedestrian victims, though the exact numbers fluctuated year-to-year.
