Sacramento, CA. – One person was killed in a car crash that left multiple people injured early Saturday morning in South Sacramento.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 1:15 a.m. at the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and 47th Avenue.
A gray Nissan reportedly failed to stop at a red light and was hit by a silver Nissan.
The impact of the collision sent the gray Nissan off the roadway, where it hit a fence.
The driver of the gray Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in that car was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Two passengers in the silver Nissan were also hospitalized with serious injuries.
CHP said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
California continues to experience a high number of vehicle collisions each year. According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were over 2,000 fatal crashes and nearly 300,000 total collisions reported statewide in 2024. Rear-end and multi-vehicle collisions on major freeways like SR-22 contribute significantly to injuries and hospitalizations.
Drivers are reminded to maintain safe following distances, reduce speeds during low-light conditions, and avoid distractions while driving. Early-morning commuters should stay alert on busy freeways and always wear seatbelts to reduce the risk of serious injuries in multi-vehicle collisions.
