2 Hurt in Antioch Car Crash on Golf Course Road near Lone Tree Way

Antioch, CA – Two people were hurt in a major crash that left a car split in half early Sunday morning in Antioch, according to the Antioch Police Department.

The wreck was first reported shortly before 5 a.m. on December 21, on Golf Course Road near Lone Tree Way.

The APD officers and firefighters responded to the scene and located a vehicle that was split in two halves. Reasons as to why the vehicle crashed were still undetermined.

There were no victims located at the scene when the authorities arrived but after doing further investigation, they determined that two injured parties had sought own treatment.

Police said the victims’ injuries were listed as non-life-threatening as of Sunday evening.

Authorities noted that the roads in the area were wet but it wasn’t clear whether it played a role in the incident.

The Antioch Police Department is still investigating the crash.

Antioch is one of the largest cities in Contra Costa County by both population and geographic size, and its steady growth has been accompanied by an uptick in traffic-related incidents in recent years. As more residents and commuters use local streets, congestion has intensified, raising the risk of vehicle collisions. According to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), Antioch recorded 220 traffic-related injuries and fatalities in 2023, reflecting a decrease from the 237 cases reported in the previous year. Although overall figures show some improvement, speed remains a pressing issue throughout the city. OTS data reveals that impairment was a contributing factor in 14% of accidents recorded in 2023, which was still high, irregardless of being slightly lower than the 15% recorded the year before. Strengthening driver focus, increasing awareness, and adhering strictly to traffic regulations could play a critical role in reducing crashes on Antioch’s most traveled roads.
