Lodi, CA. – One person was injured after a car crashed into a Starbucks on Wednesday afternoon in Lodi.
According to city authorities, the crash happened on Reynolds Rancho Parkway, between East Harney and Rocky lanes, just after 3 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a delivery driver had parked in front of the Starbucks and was picking up an order when he mistakenly hit the accelerator, causing the car to jump the curb and drive into the glass wall and strike a customer.
Employees and customers worked together to extricate the victim from under the car before they were taken to a local hospital.
The driver was not injured.
The Lodi Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
Drivers are required by law to exercise due care to avoid collisions with pedestrians. Pedestrians walking in marked and unmarked crosswalks at intersections have the right of way. Furthermore, pedestrians attempting to cross outside of the crosswalks must yield to vehicles to avoid being hit. Pedestrians should also walk facing traffic when walking on a roadway that lacks a sidewalk. These laws are put into consideration when determining fault and liability in cases of pedestrian accidents.
