Phoenix, AZ.- A man riding on a wheelchair was hit and injured by a vehicle near an intersection in west Phoenix on Sunday night, according to a report by the Phoenix Fire Department.
At about 9:38 p.m. December 14, authorities responded to reports of a collision near 60th Lane and McDowell Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, a man on a motor wheelchair was attempting to cross the intersection northbound outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a car.
The Phoenix Fire Department crews and police responded to the scene and the victim was rushed to a hospital. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the car remined at the scene after the crash and was not suspected of impairment. The driver was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Phoenix Police Department is conducting an investigation into the collision.

Alcohol-related incidents are a particular issue, with Saturday nights between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. showing the highest rates. Vulnerable road users are disproportionately affected; for example, pedestrians accounted for nearly 250 deaths in the state in 2024, a number driven by driver inattention and a failure to use crosswalks.
