Vehicle-into-building crashes in the US

Vehicle-into-building collisions, while less common than roadway crashes, occur thousands of times each year nationwide. According to the Storefront Safety Council, an estimated 100 such incidents happen daily in the U.S., resulting in nearly 16,000 injuries annually.

California sees a notable share of structural-impact crashes due to dense commercial areas and high traffic volumes. The California Office of Traffic Safety reports that building-related vehicle collisions account for a portion of the 250,000+ injury crashes recorded statewide each year.

Authorities urge drivers to remain attentive, reduce distractions, and slow down when approaching busy commercial intersections. Awareness of pedestrians, building entrances, and parking configurations can further help prevent these unusual but dangerous crashes.
