Bakersfield, CA.- One person was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Bakersfield early Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 3:14 a.m., authorities responded to reports of a collision on Highway 99 north of Panama Lane.

A white 2019 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Highway 99 when, for unknown reasons, it drifted off the east side of the road and crashed into an iron rod fence.

The vehicle continued on and slammed into two trees.

A man riding as a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver was rushed to Kern Medical with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the CHP.
