Bakersfield, CA. – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 80-year-old Richard Madril Diaz and 65-year-old Maria De Jesus Zuniga Rivas as the pair who died after a two-vehicle collision in Rosamond.
The wreck, which also left one other person severely hurt, occurred around 3:30 p.m. near 70th Street West and Avenue A.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Honda Pilot was traveling southbound on 70th Street West, approaching Avenue A, while a Jeep Wrangler was heading eastbound on Avenue A, approaching 70th Street W.
Authorities said the vehicles collided as the drivers approached the intersection.
Dias was driving the Honda, and Rivas was his passenger. They died from injuries sustained in the collision.
The man driving the Jeep was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital with severe injuries.
CHP said impairment is not believed to be a contributing factor.

Rosamond, CA.- At least one person was killed in a collision between two vehicles at an intersection in the Rosamond area on Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
At around 3:30 p.m. December 10, authorities responded to reports of a major collision near West Avenue A and 70th Street West.
A dark-colored Jeep and a Honda Pilot were identified as the vehicles involved in the accident. Authorities reported that at least two people were trapped in the wreckage.
One person was confirmed deceased due to the accident. The victim’s identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
There was no update on the condition of other involved parties.
Investigations into the accident caused the closure of West Avenue A between 80th Street West and 60th Street West.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the deadly collision.
