Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a male driver killed in a head-on collision on Highway 43 in Bakersfield early this month as 36-year-old Jonathan Emman Parra Gordillo of Shafter.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at around 10:56 p.m., on February 1, 2025, on State Route 43, north of Cecil Way.

Investigators said the driver of a Tesla Model 3 was traveling southbound Highway 43 at an undetermined speed and at the same time a Nissan Sentra driven by Gordillo was traveling in the same direction when for unknown reasons he veered to the left out of its lane directly into the path of the Tesla Model 3 and collided head-on.

Gordillo was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Tesla Model 3, identified as Correctional Officer A. Ortiz was taken to Kern Medical with severe injuries.

CHP said it is unknown if alcohol and drugs were a factor in this crash.

An investigation is underway.

Bakersfield, CA – One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision Saturday night on Highway 43 in McFarland.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident at around 10:55 p.m. on State Route 43, just north of Cecil Road.

Reports revealed a white Nissan Sentra and a white Tesla were involved in the wreck.

One person was rushed to Kern Medical Center. Unfortunately, they died of their injuries.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.

Additional details regarding the crash were not provided.

An investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash is in progress.
