Shafter, CA – The man who died last month in a rear-end collision with a big rig in Shafter has been identified by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
Angel Arron Miranda, 22, of McFarland, was killed in the incident that transpired at around 4:53 a.m. March 6, on Highway 43 and Orange Street.
Preliminary reports indicate that Miranda was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla southbound on Highway 43 when he crashed into the rear of a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia pulling double trailers.
The Toyota burst into flames after the crash and Miranda was pinned inside.
The California Highway Patrol officers and emergency personnel arrived a few minutes after being notified of the accident.
Miranda was declared deceased at the scene of the collision. The Toyota had major damage to its front and was towed from the scene.
The crash caused the closure of the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 43 as authorities worked to clear the scene.
No further details on the incident have been released. The California Highway Patrol is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
