San Andreas, CA – Two people were injured, including one seriously, following a three-vehicle collision on State Route 12 near State Route 49 in San Andreas on Tuesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, on State Route 12 just west of State Route 49.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that three vehicles were involved in the collision. CHP reports stated that two of the vehicles overturned during the crash, with one vehicle ending up on an embankment. Authorities also reported debris scattered across the roadway, and one of the involved vehicles was blocking lanes near a bridge. A Chevrolet carrying juveniles was among the vehicles involved.
Authorities said one person suffered major injuries and another sustained minor injuries in the collision. Both patients were hospitalized. Information regarding the identities of the victims and where they were transported was not immediately available.
CHP officers, Calaveras County Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to assist victims and investigate the collision. Crews also requested absorbent material to clean fluids from the roadway, and multiple tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles.
The collision caused significant traffic disruptions along State Route 12, with the roadway blocked for a period of time while emergency crews cleared the wreckage and conducted the on-scene investigation.
The San Andreas crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
