Glendale, AZ – One person was killed and two others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision near an intersection in Glendale, Monday afternoon, according to the Arizona DPS.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. at 67th Avenue and Utopia Road, south of the Loop 101 freeway.
Investigators said that an older woman driving an SUV southbound on 67th Avenue made an unsafe lane change and sideswiped another vehicle near the intersection. Authorities said the impact forced the struck vehicle into a large box truck, causing the truck driver to lose control and cross into the northbound lanes, where it collided with two additional vehicles, including a sedan.
The driver of the sedan sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Two other drivers suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital. Police said both injured parties are expected to survive.
The exact cause of the multi-vehicle crash remains under investigation by Glendale police.
Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene to assist victims and investigate the collision.
The crash caused significant traffic disruptions in the area, prompting the closure of 67th Avenue between Behrend Drive and Union Hills Drive while authorities conducted the on-scene investigation and roadway cleanup.
The fatal Glendale crash remains under investigation by police.
