Lancaster, CA. — A woman was killed Monday evening after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing a street in Lancaster, authorities said.
The collision happened at 5:14 p.m. near Avenue I and Kingtree Avenue, according to the Lancaster Sheriff's Station.
Preliminary findings indicate the woman had been walking south across Avenue I outside of a marked or unmarked crosswalk when a westbound silver Honda SUV struck her.
The driver fled the scene without stopping or providing aid.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators have not yet determined whether speed or impairment contributed to the crash.
The accident remains under active investigation.
