Santa Clara, CA. – A woman and a man were killed early Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 1:11 a.m. as the victims were traveling north on the highway in a 2023 Hyundai Elantra.
Investigators said the Elantra was hit from behind by an unknown vehicle, causing it to strike the median barrier and overturn.
The two occupants managed to exit the overturned car before it was hit again by a third vehicle, a Hyundai Accent, fatally injuring both victims.
The driver of the Accent stayed at the scene, while the vehicle that caused the initial impact fled.
The victims were identified as a 27-year-old woman from San Jose and a 44-year-old man from Menlo Park.
CHP said the incident remains under investigation.
