Update: Clay McLean ID'd as Motorcyclist Killed after Police Pursuit on Berkshire Road at Perla Way in Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified 20-year-old Clay Uriah McLean of Bakersfield as a motorcycle killed after a police pursuit on Berkshire Road in Bakersfield last week Friday evening.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, the accident was reported at around 7:28 p.m. December 27, 2024, on Berkshire Road at Perla Way.

The incident started when an officer tried to initiate an enforcement stop on a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle for a vehicle code violation.

McLean failed to stop and a pursuit started.

The CHP unit lost sight of McLean and moments later discovered he was involved in a crash with a Jaguar sedan.

McLean was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still being investigated.

Bakersfield, CA. – A motorcyclist died in a high-speed police pursuit that happened Friday evening in Southwest Bakersfield, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers attempted a traffic stop on a motorcyclist, but the rider sped away westbound at a high rate of speed, prompting a chase.

Authorities said the chase ended when the rider sideswiped a car on Berkshire Road as it turned onto Perla Way.

The rider was thrown from the bike into a block wall and died.

The driver of the car was not hurt.

Berkshire Road was closed from 7:30 p.m. until early Saturday morning during the investigation.
