Redding, CA. – 41-year-old Justin Palomino of Redding was hospitalized in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in the city, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 11:54 a.m. Tuesday on Hartnell Avenue south of Cypress Avenue.
According to the Redding Police Department, Palomino was illegally riding a bicycle westbound on Hartnell Avenue through stopped traffic when he was hit by a car driven southbound on Hartnell Avenue by 44-year-old Kao Saechao of Redding, who had just made a right turn from eastbound Cypress Avenue.
Palomino suffered critical injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Another bicycle accident that sent the rider to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries was reported on 1951 Hartnell Avenue, a few miles south of the scene of the first collision, just a day after the initial accident.

The bicycle accident occurred in the area of Hartnell and Cypress Avenues at around noon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A bicyclist was struck by a car, but it was unclear what caused the collision.
The cyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical in critical condition.
The car driver was unhurt.
