Update: 2 People Critically Injured in Wrong-Way Collision in Camarillo Identified

Camarillo, CA – The two drivers who were critically injured in a wrong-way collision early Sunday morning on Highway 101 in Camarillo were identified by authorities.

The two were Dejuan Shephard, 44, of Port Hueneme, and Luis Ocampo Cardoso, 24, of Santa Barbara.

Cardoso was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

According to the Ventura County Fire Department, Cardoso was driving a 2008 Honda Civic southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Camarillo Springs Road exit shortly after midnight.

Cardoso struck a northbound 2016 Civic driven by Shephard.

Authorities said after the collision, the vehicles became disabled in traffic lanes and they were hit by nine other vehicles.

A total of 25 people were inside the 11 vehicles at the time of the collisions.

Both Shephard and Cardoso were extricated from their cars by responding firefighters and transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Four other people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries from the subsequent crashes.

Police arrested Cardoso on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Northbound Highway 101 was closed for about three hours during the investigation.

Camarillo, CA. – Authorities are investigating a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 101 in Camarillo after midnight.

According to a police report, the incident happened after midnight on Highway 101 at Camarillo Springs Road.

Reportedly, a vehicle was driving the wrong way when it caused a collision with at least eight vehicles.

Multiple people were injured but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

The wreck closed the highway for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
