Tucson, AZ- Authorities have identified a pedestrian killed in a collision involving two vehicles at an intersection in Tucson last week on Monday.
According to the Tucson Police Department, Rebecca Inez Garcia, 25, died in the accident that happened at Mission Road and Ajo Way at about 6:15 p.m. on Monday, February 16.
A preliminary investigation shows that a green Jeep Renegade driven by a 55-year-old woman was trying to make a left turn from northbound Mission Road onto westbound Ajo Way when a southbound black Dodge Charger struck the Jeep.
The impact pushed the Charger off the roadway and it struck Garcia, who was standing in the Southwest corner of the intersection.
Tucson police reported that Garcia was declared deceased at the scene of the accident. It’s unclear whether there were any other injuries.
Roads were shut down in all directions for some time as police worked the scene and motorists were asked to find alternative routes.
Police have not confirmed whether impairement played a role in the incident but the driver of the Charger, a 30-year-old man, was said to have been traveling at a high rate of speed.
The Tucson Police Department is still investigating to establish the cause of the deadly accident.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the accident happened at Mission Road and Ajo Way on Monday, February 16.
A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the area. Details on what led up to the pedestrian being hit were not immediately released.
The TPD as well as fire and medical personnel arrived shortly after and confirmed that the accident was fatal.
