Tucson, AZ – Authorities have identified a woman who died at a hospital after being involved in an auto-pedestrian collision at an intersection in Tucson on Tuesday night.

Griselda Josephine Houston, 56, according to the the Tucson Police Department, died following the incident that was reported in the 6200 block of E. Broadway Boulevard at Wilmot Road at about 7:12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24.

Preliminary reports indicate that Houston was walking along Broadway on the south side when she tried to cross the road and was hit by a 2007 Nissan Titan heading east.

Police reported that the vehicle was traveling at 40 mph in a 35 mph zone and Houston was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.

The Tucson police and emergency personnel responded to the site of the collision shortly after and found Houston with major injuries.

Medics transported Houston to a hospital with critical injuries and she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

According to Tucson police, the 65-year-old driver was impaired at the time of the accident. Jaywalking was identified as a major contributing factor in the crash and it’s unclear whether driver impairment played a role.

All directions of the Broadway Boulevard and Wilmot Road intersection were blocked to trafffic for several hours following the accident.

At this time, no citations or arrests have been announced in connection with the incident. The Tucson Police Department is still investigating to ascertain the cause of the collision.
