Tracy, CA – The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of a two-vehicle crash that left one person dead in Tracy early Tuesday morning.

The accident was reported at about 1:30 a.m. January 6, on the westbound Interstate 580, just east of International Parkway.

Authorities reported that a white Volvo big rig and trailer was headed west on I-580 in the No.2 lane when it crashed into the rear of another big rig and trailer. The second big rig was stopped for traffic when it was hit from the back.

The force of the collision pushed both big rigs left across the westbound lanes and they ended up in the center median.

The Volvo driver was trapped in the wreckage and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver’s identity was not immediately released.

The other motorist was not injured and was at the scene when authorities arrived.

According to CHP, alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving were not suspected to have played a role in the incident.

In investigation into the incident by the California Highway Patrol is ongoing.
