Liberty Lake, WA – A Saturday afternoon head-on collision on State Route 290 near Liberty Lake led to the deaths of two motorists, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The deadly two-vehicle wreck happened shortly before 3 p.m. December 27, on SR 290 at North Harvard Road.
According to a WSP report, a 20-year-old Clayton man was driving a blue 2004 Volkswagen eastbound on SR 290 at a high rate of speed when he went across the centerline. The Volkswagen ended up in the westbound side, where it collided head-on with a red 2004 Dodge.
The driver of the Volkswagen, who authorities say was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene of the crash. He was identified as Michael Higley, 20, of Clayton.
The Dodge driver, identified as Thomas L. Nafe Jr, 61, of Athol, was wearing a seatbelt and was also decleared deceased at the scene.
The Washington State Patrol is still conducting an investigation into the incident.
