Motorcycle-related fatalities continue to be a significant concern in Arizona. According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, there were more than 2,000 motorcycle crashes in the state in 2022, resulting in over 160 fatalities. National data shows a similar trend. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that motorcyclists are approximately 28 times more likely to die in a traffic crash compared to occupants in passenger vehicles. Authorities remind all road users—including motorcyclists and drivers—to stay alert, obey speed limits, and approach intersections with caution. Police also encourage riders to use proper protective gear and ensure their motorcycles are well-maintained. Drivers are urged to check blind spots carefully, avoid distractions, and yield appropriately, especially when turning across oncoming lanes. Increased awareness from everyone on the road can help reduce preventable crashes.
