Tempe, AZ.- A motorcycle rider died in a multi-vehicle collision in Tempe early Thursday morning, according to a report by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The wreck took place shortly after midnight on the westbound Red Mountain Loop 202 on-ramp at Priest Drive.
According to a preliminary investigation, a motorcycle rider with a passenger were heading west on the on-ramp when the rider lost control and the motorcycle went down.
The driver of the motorcycle was then hit by a vehicle. A white Toyota Camry and another vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident stopped and the drivers remained at the scene.
The AZDPS reported that the motorcycle driver died at the scene. The motorcycle passenger was treated for minor injuries and no one else reported any injury.
Authorities closed the westbound lanes of the on-ramp for almost four hours following the crash.
The exact cause of the collision is under investigation.
