Oakland, CA – A 15-year-old girl was killed and four others were injured after two collisions on Friday morning in Oakland.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at around 9:45 a.m. on November 7, on Interstate 580 in the 3300 block of 35th Avenue.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the first collision happened around 9:40 a.m. near 14th Avenue and East 31st Street, where a Toyota Corolla carrying five teens struck another vehicle and fled the scene.
The suspect exited at 35th Avenue and continued south at a high rate of speed before colliding with another vehicle in the 3300 block of 35th Avenue. The impact caused the Corolla to crash into a concrete wall.
All five occupants of the Corolla were taken to the hospital for treatment, where the 15-year-old female passenger in the rear seat was declared dead.
The driver was hospitalized in critical but stable condition and later arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run, authorities said. The conditions of the other three teens were unknown.
No further details about the accident were provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
