Oakland, CA. – A woman died, and a man was hurt in a head-on collision that happened Friday night at an intersection in East Oakland, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Authorities were informed about the incident just after 11 p.m. at 92nd Avenue and San Leandro Street.
Oakland police and firefighters responded to the scene.
An initial investigation revealed that an Antioch woman in her 50s was driving a car eastbound on San Leandro Street at a high rate of speed when she crossed westbound into the traffic lane in the intersection.
She collided head-on with a GMC Yukon and a BART cement pillar.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the Yukon sustained minor injuries. He was only identified as an Oakland man in his 40s.
Police officers are investigating to establish the cause of the crash.
