Stockton, CA — One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on northbound Highway 99 in Stockton late Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision was reported at approximately 11:26 p.m. Sunday, August 16, 2026, on northbound State Route 99 near the State Route 120 interchange.

According to the CHP incident log, a white work truck and a big rig with a refrigerated trailer carrying approximately 38,000 pounds of frozen food were involved in the crash. As per the CHP, the work truck overturned, blocking the highway, and was subsequently struck by the big rig. Authorities reported that approximately 20 gallons of fuel had spilled onto the roadway after the big rig’s fuel tank ruptured.

Firefighters had to extricate two occupants from the overturned vehicle. The CHP later confirmed that one passenger sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The name of the deceased party was not provided.

The exact circumstances leading to the collision were not provided in the incident log. No arrests were reported.

The crash blocked multiple lanes and scattered debris across the highway. CHP officers initiated a closure near the transition ramp from eastbound State Route 120 to northbound State Route 99. Both involved vehicles were eventually removed from the scene, and the roadway closure was later cleared at approximately 4:12 a.m.

The fatal Stockton crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
