Stevens County, WA – 2nd Victim Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 395 near Chewelah Identified

According to a report by the Washington State Patrol, Karla H. Taylor, 47, of Springdale, died following the collision that took place at about 5:15 a.m. July 28, on Highway 395 near Bluecreek.

Chewelah, WA – Authorities have identified the second victim of a big rig collision that claimed the lives of two people last week on Tuesday near Chewelah.

According to a report by the Washington State Patrol, Karla H. Taylor, 47, of Springdale, died following the collision that took place at about 5:15 a.m. July 28, on Highway 395 near Bluecreek.

Investigations revealed that a 2008 Chrysler PT van was traveling north on Highway 395 when it drifted across the centerline and collided head-on with an oncoming 2025 Peterbilt Sunshine Disposal garbage truck.

Both occupants of the van, identified as Taylor and Jamey Dotts, 55, of Kettle, were declared deceased at the scene.

Authorities did not confirm who was driving at the time of the accident.

A person who witnessed the collision reportedly put out a small fire that started as a result of the collision.

The driver of the garbage truck, Casey R. Clare, 34, of Chewelah, was not hurt and stayed at the scene of the accident.

The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the deadly crash.
