The crash occurred on Highway 26 at approximately 1:46 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, when troopers were dispatched to the scene near milepost 1.

Investigators said a Subaru Forester was traveling westbound on Highway 26 when it crossed into the eastbound lanes while attempting to pass other westbound vehicles and collided with an eastbound Toyota RAV4.

The driver of the Subaru, identified as Smith Ward Humphreys, a 47-year-old resident of Warrenton, was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Daysy Vanesa Camarena, a 37-year-old resident of Whittier, California, and a passenger, Joshua Zeke Camarena, a 33-year-old resident of Whittier, California, suffered serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment. Highway 26 was impacted for approximately four hours while law enforcement and emergency crews conducted an on-scene investigation and cleared the roadway.

To stay safe on Oregon roads, always obey posted speed limits and adjust your speed for traffic, weather, and road conditions, keep your attention fully on driving by avoiding distractions like phones or eating, never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, maintain a safe following distance from other vehicles, and always wear your seat belt; be especially vigilant for motorcycles, bicyclists, and pedestrians at intersections and in urban areas, check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes, use turn signals for every maneuver, and give extra space to large trucks and buses that need more room to stop or turn, while ensuring your vehicle is well‑maintained with functioning brakes, tires, and lights so you can react safely to unexpected situations.
