Santa Ysabel, CA – One person was killed, and two others sustained minor injuries after two vehicles collided at an intersection in Santa Ysabel early Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at about 12:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at State Route 76 and State Route 79, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Preliminary investigation findings indicate that the incident was a T-bone collision involving a silver Hyundai and a red pickup truck. A Jeep was also noted to be at the scene following the impact.
One person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the person has not been released. Two other individuals suffered minor injuries in the collision. No arrests were reported in connection with the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the specific cause of the T-bone accident. One of the vehicles, the red pickup truck, required a tow truck with at least 100 feet of cable for recovery.
California Highway Patrol officers, emergency medical personnel, and the San Diego County Examiner responded to the scene. Caltrans was also called in to assist with traffic management.
The impact of the crash resulted in a SigAlert and a hard closure of the entire junction, including northbound and southbound State Route 79 and eastbound State Route 76. The roadway remained closed for approximately four hours before all lanes were reopened at 4:52 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
