Santa Clara, CA – At least one person died in a fiery wrong-way collision that happened Wednesday on Montague Expressway in Santa Clara, authorities reported.
According to the Santa Clara Police Department, the accident involved at least two vehicles on the Montague Expressway overcrossing at Lafayette Street on August 26, 2026.
Police officers and firefighters responded to the scene and found one of the vehicles in flames and one person trapped inside the other car.
The firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the trapped victim.
At least one person died in the accident.
One of the vehicles was allegedly driving in the wrong direction at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.
Santa Clara police closed Montague Expressway in both directions following the accident.
