San Diego, CA – A rider who was injured after a motorcycle and an SUV collided on Imperial Avenue in San Diego in mid-March is dead, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased rider as Robert Lee Adams Jr., a 31-year-old man from San Diego.
The crash occurred in the 3400 block of Imperial Avenue at about 12:48 a.m. on March 17, 2026.
Authorities said Adams Jr. was operating a motorcycle when he lost control and slid beneath a sports utility vehicle (SUV) under unclear circumstances.
Adams Jr. sustained severe injuries in the crash and was transported to a medical facility for advanced treatment. He was later transferred to Select Specialty Hospital San Diego, where he remained until his condition worsened. Adams was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. on April 21, 2026.
No other injuries or arrests were reported in connection with the incident.
The cause of the crash remains unclear, though officials confirmed that the death resulted from complications of blunt head trauma sustained during the collision.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and facilitated medical transport for the injured rider.
The collision led to disruptions along Imperial Avenue as authorities responded to the scene and conducted preliminary assessments.
The incident remains under investigation.
