San Diego, CA – A deadly crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle claimed the life of one person in the East Village neighborhood of San Diego on Thursday night.
At around 9:45 p.m. March 26, authorities responded to reports of a collision on Interstate 5, south of J Street, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to preliminary reports, a rider on a Suzuki GSX-R600 lost control and was ejected from the motorcycle. A BMW sedan that was also headed in the same direction struck the motorcyclist.
The motorcycle rider was declared deceased at the site of the accident. The victim’s name, age, or gender were not immediately released pending notification of the next-of-kin.
The crash led to hazardous materials being spilled onto the roadway, causing the closure of at least two lanes as crews performed cleanup of the scene.
It’s unclear whether alcohol or drugs played any role in the incident.
The California Highway Patrol is still working to ascertain the cause of the accident.
