San Bernardino, CA – One person was killed in a fiery multi-vehicle crash Thursday night on Interstate 10 in San Bernardino, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision was reported at approximately 9:43 p.m. on September 24 on westbound Interstate 10, just east of Mountain View Avenue.
CHP dispatch logs indicate the crash began when a dark-colored Toyota Camry collided with the center divider in the No. 1 Lane. Two other vehicles, including a black Ford F-150, then blew into the Camry.
Investigators later confirmed that four vehicles were involved, including a black Ford F-150.
One person died at the scene. Fire crews told CHP the victim could not be reached because the burning vehicle was fully engulfed. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office was requested to respond for the coroner. The victim’s identity has not been released.
The cause of the collision has not been determined, and no arrests were reported in the initial investigation.
The crash prompted a SigAlert and forced the closure of lanes 1 through 3 on westbound Interstate 10. Motorists were directed to use the Mountain View Avenue exit or pass through the far right side while emergency crews worked the scene.
By approximately 10:48 p.m., all westbound lanes had reopened, and authorities later pushed the remaining damaged vehicles off the freeway.
The fatal Interstate 10 crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
