Monterey County, CA – A 58-year-old Gonzales bicyclist was killed after his bicycle collided with a semi-truck in Salinas on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred near the intersection of Old Stage Road and Esperanza Road at about 2:03 p.m.

According to the CHP, a 61-year-old Yuma, Arizona, man was driving a green Kenworth eastbound on Esperanza Road and approaching Old Stage Road. At the same time, the bicyclist was traveling on Old Stage Road near the intersection. The Kenworth turned right onto Old Stage Road and collided with the bicycle.

The bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not provided.

No arrests were reported in connection with the crash.

The CHP responded to the scene and investigated the fatal collision. No information was provided regarding any road closures or traffic impacts.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. CHP investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
