California Highway Patrol officers responded to the northbound Interstate 5 to the eastbound Interstate 80 interchange after they were notified about a collision around 4:27 p.m. January 19.
The officers found a car that had veered off the roadway and hit a tree.
The driver, a man in his 30s, was the only occupant in the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP is investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
