In 2021, Sacramento reported 4,296 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions, ranking 1st among comparably sized California cities. By 2022, that count decreased to 4,008 victims, and the city’s overall ranking improved slightly. In 2023, the total rose again to 4,214 victims, placing Sacramento 2nd in its peer group, indicating renewed increases in serious crash involvement. Alcohol-involved victims remained high across this period, with 508 in 2021, 435 in 2022, and 454 in 2023, and speed-related collisions also stayed prominent, with 700 in 2021, 626 in 2022, and 745 in 2023.
