Both the motorcycle and the car were towed away from the scene.
Traffic in the area remained slow, affecting commuters as far south as Cactus Avenue in Menifee and the westbound I-60 and Indian Street in Moreno Valley.
Motorcycle collision statistics for Riverside, as per National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) data through the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), show the county as a high-risk area for motorcyclists in Southern California due to extensive freeways (I-15, I-215, SR-91), urban sprawl, and commuter traffic. In 2023, Riverside County recorded 50 motorcyclist fatalities, ranking 3rd among California counties (behind Los Angeles and San Bernardino), per SafeTREC/OTS analyses drawing from FARS. This placed it high in fatalities per 100,000 population (e.g., top 5 in some metrics) and serious injuries (e.g., ~210 per 100,000 in recent rankings). In 2022, the county had 51 fatalities (3rd highest), and in 2021, 30 (ranking 4th). Statewide, California motorcycle fatalities declined 10.2% to 583 in 2023 (from 649 in 2022), with national figures at 6,335 in 2023. Riverside’s elevated counts reflect common factors like failure to yield, speeding, impaired driving, and multi-vehicle crashes on busy corridors. NHTSA emphasizes helmet use (reducing risks significantly) and awareness, while local enforcement targets these issues amid ongoing high exposure for riders.
