The collision left both vehicles on the right-hand side of the freeway, with the Nissan sedan partially blocking the slow lane. At least one occupant of the sedan reportedly became trapped inside the vehicle following the crash.
Emergency responders confirmed that at least one person sustained major injuries in the collision. Rescue crews worked to free the trapped victim before paramedics provided medical assistance. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of those involved, and no arrests were reported.
During the response, authorities also discovered a Chihuahua inside one of the vehicles, prompting a request for assistance from Riverside County Animal Control. The dog was later located and safely removed from the vehicle.
Officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with CAL FIRE crews and emergency medical personnel. Authorities temporarily closed multiple lanes of southbound I-15 while rescue efforts and the investigation were underway.
