Poway, CA – A 19-year-old woman was killed following a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Poway late Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal collision occurred on State Route 67 at Rio Maria Road at approximately 11:25 p.m. on February 14, 2026. Authorities said the victim succumbed to her injuries at 11:49 p.m.
Investigators reported that Sherilynne Valle Hammer, 19, of San Diego, was a passenger in a sedan that collided with a sport utility vehicle. The circumstances leading up to the crash were not immediately released.
Hammer sustained severe blunt force injuries in the collision. Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures after arriving at the scene, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional injuries or arrests were immediately reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials stated the manner of death was ruled an accident, with blunt force injuries listed as the cause of death and no contributing conditions noted.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene along with fire personnel after a 911 call was placed. Next of kin have been notified.
