Preliminary reports indicate that Danny Shaffer, 69, of Beckwourth, was driving a Ford F-150 westbound on State Route 70 when he swerved into the eastbound side and collided with an oncoming Ford Explorer driven by Trenton Schwier, 22, of Chilcoot.

Plumas County, CA – A head-on collision involving three vehicles claimed the life of a Beckwourth man near Vinton in Plumas County on Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway 70, east of State Route 49 at around 11:17 a.m. on May 7.
Preliminary reports indicate that Danny Shaffer, 69, of Beckwourth, was driving a Ford F-150 westbound on State Route 70 when he swerved into the eastbound side and collided with an oncoming Ford Explorer driven by Trenton Schwier, 22, of Chilcoot. The Explorer spun out of control and came to a rest on the south dirt shoulder.
Schaffer’s Ford continued on and crashed into an eastbound Dodge Dart driven by Danny Price, 63, of Loyalton. Both vehicles were pushed onto the south shoulder of the highway.
Price was trapped in his vehicle and was extricated by the responding firefighters. He was flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center, where he was later declared deceased.
Schaffer was transported by ambulance to Renown Regional Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Schwier and his family members riding with him sought on treatment.
According to the CHP, impairment was not suspected to have been a factor in the accident.
Multiple agencies, including CHP, Care Flight, United States Forest Service, Eastern Plumas Health Care, Beckwourth Peak Fire Protection District, Crescent Tow, and Plumas County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
