Phoenix, AZ – An 18-year-old driver who was killed early Monday morning after his car crashed into the rear of a semi-truck in west Phoenix has been identified.
The authorities identified the deceased driver as Jamison Lamont Saunders.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. near the intersection of 51st Avenue and Van Buren Street.
According to investigators, Saunders was driving a white Kia when it collided with the back of a semi-truck. Saunders sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary findings indicate Saunders was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to stop before striking the rear of the truck. The Kia became lodged underneath the trailer, sustaining severe damage.
The semi-truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.
The intersection was temporarily closed while detectives documented the crash and gathered evidence. The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
