Phoenix, AZ – A man sustained major injuries in a collision between a vehicle and a in the early morning hours of Monday in central Phoenix.

According to Phoenix police, the accident was reported just after 5 a.m. January 12, near 27th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Investigations into the incident found that a man was hit by a vehicle near the intersection. It's unclear whether the pedestrian was in the crosswalk when the vehicle struck him.

Police say the pedestrian was rushed to a hospital and was listed in serious condition. The driver remained at the scene after the crash and spoke with the authorities.

Both directions of Buckeye Road were shut down for hours following the crash.

Authorities have not released the identities of the involved parties or further information on the crash. The Phoenix Police Department is handling the investigation.
