Phoenix continues to experience a high volume of vehicle collisions, consistently accounting for a disproportionate share of Arizona's total crashes and fatalities, though recent preliminary data shows a slight decline in fatal crashes in 2024. The city logged 37,472 crashes in 2024, which translates to an average of over 102 accidents per day. In 2022, Phoenix recorded 38,311 total crashes, resulting in 282 fatalities and over 10,000 personal injuries. The city is ranked as one of the deadliest major cities in the US for traffic fatalities per capita. Key contributing factors in Phoenix crashes include speeding, which is a factor in approximately 34% of deadly crashes, and distracted driving. Alcohol-related incidents also remain a concern, particularly on weekend nights. Pedestrians and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable; pedestrian collisions resulted in 249 deaths in Arizona in 2024, while motorcycle fatalities account for 20% of all fatal crashes in Phoenix.
