Gardena, CA.- A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Gardena late Sunday night, according to the Gardena Police Department.
The incident took place at about 10:23 p.m. September 7, in the 14800 block of Western Avenue near 149th Street.
According to a preliminary investigation, a woman was attempting to cross the street with her son when they were hit by a vehicle.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The child was not seriously injured in the accident.
Police said the driver fled the scene after the accident but later surrendered to the authorities and was taken into custody.
The identities of the involved parties were not immediately released.
The Gardena Police Department is conducting an investigation into the collision.
