Authorities reported that a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado was traveling at a high rate of speed on the highway when it struck a 64-year-old pedestrian in the roadway

Hilmar, CA – A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash that happened in Hilmar on Friday night, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place just before 11:30 p.m. September 5, on Highway 165 and Third Street.
Authorities reported that a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado was traveling at a high rate of speed on the highway when it struck a 64-year-old pedestrian in the roadway.
The man who was hit was pronounced deceased shortly after at the scene.
The driver continued traveling on the highway after the accident and was located by a CHP officer nearly 20 minutes later.
The suspect, Angel Ortega, 40, was pulled over and arrested.
He was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of murder, DUI, and hit-and-run.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
