Pasadena, CA — At least one person was injured after a BMW SUV and a semi-truck collided on Interstate 210 early Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on westbound I-210 just east of Madre Street at around 2:05 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9.
According to CHP, the collision involved a white BMW SUV and a semi-truck after both vehicles ended up blocking traffic in the slow lane. The BMW was reported to be heavily damaged in the front, while the semi stopped in the roadway as the driver got out to check on the other motorist.
At least one person—identified as the BMW's driver—was found lying on the ground and initially unresponsive. The semi-truck driver later requested transport to a hospital as a precaution. CHP spoke with the BMW driver's parents, confirming their son had been operating the vehicle. No arrests were reported.
The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined, though CHP logs noted the strong smell of alcohol coming from the BMW driver, which may have been a factor.
Emergency responders, including the Pasadena Fire Department, arrived to block multiple lanes while treating the injured and clearing debris. Heavy absorbent materials were requested due to oil in the roadway, and a SigAlert was issued at 3:06 a.m. before being canceled shortly after 4 a.m. All lanes were reopened by that time.
The crash caused significant traffic delays, with all lanes stopped at one point and the #4, #5, and #6 lanes blocked for more than 30 minutes.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
