Palm Desert, CA – A driver was killed Friday morning following a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and Cook Street in Palm Desert, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:20 a.m., where they discovered a vehicle that had crashed for reasons that were not immediately clear, as per the sheriff's department.
Cal Fire personnel responded and pronounced the driver dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The westbound lanes of Fred Waring Drive were closed for several hours during the investigation and utility repairs. The roadway reopened around 3 p.m., though the No. 3 lane remained closed as crews with Southern California Edison completed work in the area, city officials said. All traffic signals were reported to be functioning normally.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
